The wait is finally over - #GivingTuesday is here!

To celebrate this worldwide day of giving, we are shining a light on the dynamic people who make up the USBC Board of Directors so that you can get to know the USBC even better, and learn what inspires them.

Because you are reading this message, we know you are passionate about creating a landscape of support for breastfeeding families. Thank you for being part of this community!

We hope stories like Nekisha's will inspire you to take the next step and show your support with a $15 donation for the USBC today. As an added incentive, your contribution today will help us unlock an $800 match from members of the Board!

This morning, we spotlight Nekisha Killings, MPH, IBCLC, &
Elected Director of the USBC Board

Nekisha Killings serves as Director of Equity, Inclusion and Belonging at Lactation Education Resources, and a consultant for organizations working to create and implement strategies to better support marginalized communities. Nekisha is also a co-founder of Nikki & Nikki: Lactation Career Consultants, which is dedicated to equipping aspirants of color to sit the IBCLC exam.

Nekisha maintains a steadfast focus on advancing equity in the field of lactation, including through her writing and research on the impact of historical trauma on Black families' breastfeeding experiences today. She is a spouse to an active-duty servicemember and homeschools their "four little future world changers."

"My girls were the catalyst for me getting into this work, and they are my 'why' for striving every day to seek equity in the care that birthing people receive.

I want to make a ripple today that will resonate throughout their lifetimes."

"This military life isn't for everyone, but it has given me a special appreciation and empathy for birthing people who are village-less and seeking caring support through their parenthood journey. I began my work supporting the displaced and they'll always have a place in my heart. I'm thankful for this adventure and for my partner serving our country and our family valiantly."

Nekisha is pictured below locked arms with her moms group.

"My village of sisterfriends and mentors is everything to me. We all need a tribe, a community of loving humans to pour into us and keep us encouraged and fulfilled to fight another day."

Nekisha is a master bridge builder! As Chair of the USBC Membership Committee, Nekisha helped to set the course for a more equitable future during the recent USBC membership expansion and transformation—and she's just getting started!

"I'm on a mission now to make sure that brown breasts and nipples become the default in imagery for lactation education, support, marketing, etc. There's a knowledge gap and deficit among practitioners and it's doing a disservice to BIPOC. I'm out to change that!"

You can help us reach our goal and unlock the matching funds by making a donation to the USBC this Giving Tuesday in honor of all those who share Nekisha's determination and focus to advance equity for breastfeeding families.

They are what USBC is about. They make us shine.

Thank you for being part of our community and for becoming a donor! Every dollar counts, and today, they can count twice!

With gratitude,

U.S. Breastfeeding Committee
